Vinayaka Missions University (VMU), is a higher education institution based in Salem, Tamil Nadu, India and it is the 48th University in country. The deemed university status was conferred by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (India) with the recommendations of UGC (Established Under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956) to Vinayaka Mission's as an acknowledgement of excellence and satisfaction for the highest levels of academic standards and its infrastructure facilities provided to achieve excellence in education. It was renamed as VMU in 2006 as per a new decree issued by the University Grants Commission enabling deemed universities to change their name to 'university'.
