The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu by an Act of State Legislature. It was inaugurated by His Excellency Thiru K.R. Narayanan, President of India on September 20th 1997. The University started functioning from 03.10.1997. The University is named after Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, a prominent Indian legal specialist of the 20th century. he University offers a variety of specializations, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At the postgraduate level, the University offers advanced degrees through its Departments of Law. The advanced degree programs offered include Business Law, Constitutional Law & Human Rights, Intellectual Property Laws, International Law and Organizations, Environmental Law & Legal Order, and Criminal Law & Criminal Justice Administration.
