In the year 1984, the visionary Late Lamented His Grace Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius foresaw the great oak within the tiny acorn which he planted and nurtured with care & dedication. His Grace was the Founder-Manager of St. Thomas College, Bhilai whose mission was to work for the spiritual, social, educational, cultural and economic upliftment of the people. Laying the foundation of St. Thomas College (STC), Bhilai was one of the steps in that direction. Established in the year 1984, and originally affiliated to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, the institution migrated to Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg in 2015.
His Grace reckoned that education should give equal weightage to both knowledge and skills along with instilling moral values in the young minds. The vision and mission of His Grace have acted as a beacon guiding the College in the right direction and it has carved for itself a niche in the education map of India. It was awarded the FIRST Dr. B. L. Pandey Memorial Trophy for Best College in 2014 on Performance Index of Affiliated Colleges (PIAC)- 2013 among 151 affiliated private Colleges under Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur. All its courses are sanctioned by the Department of Higher Education, Chhattisgarh Government. It has been reaccredited at B++ level by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the UGC.
St. Thomas College, Bhilai has been declared as a minority institution by National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) vide its order dated 13.06.2006 in case No.203 of 2005. The same has been reiterated by Commissioner, Adim Jati Thatha Anusuchit Jati Vikas Kariyalay, C.G dated 24.08.2013 Aa.sa/151/2013-14/186/6544. A Governing body formed as per the judgment of NCMEI and Court delivered on 13.6.2006 (F.No. 203 of 2005/8509DT 15.6.2006) and the UGC (F.8-115/89 (CPP-I) DT 12.09.1989) oversees the functioning of the College.
The College evolved under the sagacity of visionary Late Lamented His Grace Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius and his legacy is now under the stewardship of Chairman of College, His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius. The astute leadership and resourcefulness of our former Principals Late Rev. Fr. John V. John, Late Prof. T. O. Zacharia, Late Prof. K. M. Kuriakose and Dr. Reny George preserved the legacy which is now upheld efficiently by the present Principal Dr. M.G. Roymon.
Over the years, the College has garnered accolades in co-curricular and extra-curricular domains. Every year, the students bring laurels for the alma mater by securing top positions in academics. The institution places equal emphasis on literary, cultural and sports activities. The pupils have risen to the challenge of present-day competition and have proved their mettle at district, state and national levels.

Its well-stocked Central library with nearly 40,000 books in both paperback/hardcover and digital editions facilitates wide exposure to contemporary developments in the streams of courses offered. Well furnished & properly ventilated classrooms based on ergonomics, well equipped laboratories, sports & fitness facilities, a cafeteria promoting healthy food choices and an eco-friendly campus provide a conducive learning environment for the students. Institutional auditoriums equipped with audio-visual facilities provide the perfect ambience for conducting co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
With the goal of fostering collaboration, providing students with an opportunity for global experience and facilitating advancement of knowledge based on reciprocity, the College has entered into MoUs with reputed institutions. It also offers online certificate programs and courses with specialized training modules that allow the student to develop transferable skill-sets specific to their fields of work.
The aesthetically built Girl’s hostel is situated amidst lush greenery where students can pursue their studies in a serene atmosphere.
St. Thomas Alumni Association has been a nodal forum for its alumni to share their time, experience and talent to further the College’s mission of preparing students to explore the world critically & creatively, live & work honourably, and experience life abundantly. These ambassadors of the college have made their mark in diverse fields including government services, civil services, accountancy, films, drama, literature, beauty pageants, music, dance, journalism, sports and even entrepreneurship.

INFRASTRUCTURE
For the effective delivery of the vision and educational mission, St. Thomas College has invested into a state- of – the- art infrastructure in the sprawling campus. The college makes sure that right facilities are made available to students as well as teachers thus creating an environment conducive for higher learning and research. The college has upgraded Learning Management System (LMS) in wake of pandemic to help faculty manage educational coursework online. Buildings, classrooms, laboratories, library, sports and health care facilities are crucial elements of learning environments in the college.
The library is one of the assets of the College. It is a treasure house of knowledge with a number of reference books, Course books, National Dailies and Magazines that are well utilized both by the students and the members of the staff.
The college has well-equipped laboratories for the science, language and computers where students get a first- hand knowledge and practical extension of the concepts taught. The fundamental purpose of the laboratory exercises is to develop holistic and conceptual knowledge.
As books are not the only way students learn. Sports facilities (Sports Complex), Gymnasium and Activity Rooms for Music, NSS and NCC are dedicated specifically for students to pursue talents and interests.
The College is Wi-Fi enabled and has a well equipped seminar and conference hall. The College takes pride in providing a clean, safe and green campus with all basic amenities. The College is endowed with open air stage, Girls hostels, Health Centre, ATM and separate parking facilities available to both students and faculty. College provides an eco-friendly environment to its students with solar energy, rainwater harvesting, paper recycling and other green initiatives. The campus is CCTV-enabled and addresses the need for vigilance, security and caters to the safety requirements of a well endowed and equipped campus receiving a huge footfall.
