S.N.D.T. College of Home Science
SNDT Women’s University founded by Bharatratna Dhondo Keshav Karve in 1916, is the first women’s university in India as well as South East Asia, comprising 227 affiliated colleges spread over in Maharashtra, Gujarat and other parts of India. The main office of the university is situated in Churchgate, Mumbai and one of the major campuses is in Pune. SNDT College of Home Science was established on the 16 acre campus in 1968, with the aim to create responsible women citizens of India and to enlighten them so as to make them sources of infinite strength and also empower them.

In accordance with the aim of the university, the Home Science College offers bachelor’s and master’s programs. In bachelors course the college offers specialization like:

Nutrition and Dietetics
This specialization touches the scientific and clinical aspect of nutrition, nutrition therapy, sports nutrition and community nutrition. It includes behavior and lifestyle management in order to lead a healthy and wholesome life. After completing their graduation, the students can work as dieticians, nutritionists in schools, hospitals, clinics and fitness centers.

Food Science and Quality Control
This specialization touches the principles of food science, food product development, assessment of sensory attributes of food and evaluation of its quality along with the understanding of the industry operations from product formulation, packaging and its dispatch. These graduates are qualified to work in the research and development, quality control department of food industries, food and water testing laboratories, they can also become entrepreneurs.

Textile Science and Apparel Design
This specialization deals with the science of textile and design. It also deals with the historical perspectives of textile. It also includes the technical and scientific knowledge of thread, color, print and weaving technology. The graduates can work as dress designers, research assistants in labs, costume designers, entrepreneurs, designers in garment industries and merchandizers.

This specialization touches child psychology, child education, community development program, counseling courses for special children, child and youth center management and working with parents and children. These graduates can become teachers, trainers in child and women welfare centers; they can establish crèches, toy libraries and community welfare centers and can work as storytellers and puppeteers.

Interior Design
Consists of resource management, ergonomics, residential and commercial designing of building and applications of computers in interior space design, landscaping, consumer services, marketing management, etc. These graduates qualify as interior designers, landscape designers marketing managers and consumers service providers.

Human Ecology and Consumer Services
This is an all-inclusive course which includes event management, front office operations, outreach programs management. This graduation qualification enables students to become event managers, front office managers, project officers, sales and marketing executives and catering service managers.

Basic English is taught in the first year which enables the students to communicate effectively, prepare them for interviews and acquire soft skills.

Home Science is not a course which deals with just eating and cooking, as the myth is, but it is a fully scientific course which develops employability skills among the students and empowers them. Besides, this course also complements the overall personality development of the students to become good human beings with a wider perspective on life which is scientific and humanitarian.

Above all, the uniqueness of the SNDT College of Home Science is Laboratory School of the Department of Human Development and Organic Edible Garden at the campus.

Nutrition and Dietetics:
Objectives of the Program:

learn the basics of Food Science, Nutrition and Dietetics
understand Physiology, Nutritional Biochemistry and Medical Nutrition Therapy
apply the knowledge of Nutrition and Dietetics in planning menus for various diseases

Human Development:
Objectives of the Program: 
The course enables the students to
understand the major theoretical perspectives, issues, and concepts in the field of human development
identify the major stages of human development through the life span
explore the process of scientific inquiry and basic research methods
develop critical thinking skills that includes the ability to discriminate between the appropriate use of empirical and intuitive approaches in the area of human development

Interior Space Design:
Objectives of the Program: 
The course enables the students to
gain a good understanding of the principles of Interior Design.
apply the principles of anthropometry and ergonomics, knowledge of colour, materials, methods and the skills acquired, in residential and commercial interior design.
acquire knowledge of the code of professional practice and management as Designers.
